On a lazy Sunday, after binge watching F.R.I.E.N.D.S, my friends & I thought, how cool it would be if the series were remade using Bollywood cast. I’m a huge Bollywood movie buff and an ardent F.R.I.E.N.D.S fan. So, I took the topic rather seriously. I’m ‘monica-fying’ the topic a friend of mine commented.

But in all seriousness, what an astounding union it would be- Masaledaar Bollywood & a classic sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S that is! For starters, we narrowed down the opening theme. The show would’ve opened to the timeless friendship song from Sholay, ‘Yeh dosti hum nahi todenge’, because genuinely a true Bollywood F.R.I.E.N.D.S would be incomplete without taking blessings from the timeless movie. After selecting the opening song we moved towards finalizing the characters. Boy, it wasn’t easy. The atmosphere immediately changed to a heated Parliamentary discussion. Without any physical damage to anybody we narrowed down who were to play which character and what their names would be in Desi Version.

Kangana Ranaut as Phoebe (Pihu) - Phoebe is an eccentric masseuse and self-taught musician.  She is pretty, weird, compassionate, moody and well is Phoebe. Oxford Dictionary should add noun ‘Phoebe, to their dictionary explaining what Lisa Kudrow’s character really is! The only actress in bollywood that could come close in potraying Phoebe perfectly is the bollywood’s queen.

Saif Ali Khan as Joey (Jai) - Well to be precise Saif from 90s and 2000s. Saif can easily fill up the shoes of a handsome, flirty and somewhat dumb character. If you’re still doubtful then I’d suggest you to watch Dil Chahta Hai & Kal ho na ho again. And the archetypal ‘How you doing?’ would be replaced by bollywood’s famous pick up line ‘Ati kya Khandala?’

Farhan Akhtar as Chandler (Chandresh) –Humor, wit and sarcasm are the superpowers of Chandler Bing. I feel Zindagi Naa Milegi Dobara shows Farhan’s Chandler side. Also, Farhan has that innocent and slightly shy kind of laugh, and euphoric joy in his eyes like that of Chandler. 

I’m done convincing & cannot give you more reasons so as to why he should be Chandler. So –

Anushka Sharma as Monica (Monisha) – Monica is fit, uptight, control freak and loves cleanliness as much as Joey loves food. She is the mother hen of the group and mind you no one hurts her babies. She is a professional chef and very competitive. All these qualities scream only one name that could do justice to the character – Anushka Sharma!

Akshay Kumar as Ross (Rosesh)- Who better than our very own Khiladi to play a nerdy paleontologist who wears dinosaur ties. And I believe he’d effortlessly pull the infamous Ross’ Hiiiiiiiiiiiiii! Also refer the below picture-

Yes that’s what I’m talking about!

Akshay is trained in martial arts so I would love him trying his hand at beautiful yet deadly sport of ‘Dance Karate’.

Kareena Kapoor Khan as Rachel (Rachna) –Who better than Kareena can pull of the character of Rachel who lives and breathes fashion, is slightly moody and careless, but can grow into entirely different person when needed. She can perfectly play the character of Rachel who is grasping yet giving, sulky yet forgiving and really emotional.

Satish Shah & Ratna Pathak as Jack and Judy Geller (Jayesh and Juhi) – The Sarabhais would make perfect Gellers. The careless Jack & the uptight Judy can be played best by none other than Satish Shah & Ratna Pathak.

 

Shah Rukh Khan as Mike (Mikesh) – A special appearance from King Khan is much needed in our desi F.R.I.E.N.D.S! Also, both are charming & amazing.

Rakhi Sawant as Janice (Janvi) – Loud & well Janicy. Rakhi Sawant can effortlessly pull off ‘Hey Bhagwan’ or ‘Oh Jeejus!’

Rajpal Yadav as Gunther (Ghanshyam) – Head over heels in love with Rachel only to be ignored, because ‘Who on the earth would’ve thought?’

Now how would Desi verion have plot twists. They’d hangout in a local CCD. There would be intense stares between Ross & Rachel and a slow track would play in the background. Chandler and Monica’s marriage would be arranged when Jack & Judy find out about her relationship with Richard. Though initially heart-broken she starts falling for Chandler, who was in love with her since the moment they met. Gunther & Janice would team to become psychotic stalkers. That would follow a fight sequence and the police would reach at very last moment and throw them in the jail. Gunther never forgets Rachel and walls of his cell have ‘Rachel’ written all over them while Janvi plans revenge. The Thanksgiving episodes would be replaced by Diwali. Phoebe participates in a reality singing show & becomes star overnight because of her difficult childhood that producers use for show’s advantage. Phoebe finds love in the show’s pianist, Mike. Joey opens a chain of restaurants after becoming successful actor and Monica is a head chef in one of his restaurant. Chandler joins family business while Rachel opens up a boutique. Ross is a paleontologist turned photographer because well someone has to!

The show ends happily with Janvi’s plan being back fired. The show would take a leap of 5 years where everyone  & their kids come together for Joey's grand wedding.
